Everyone practicing gratitude realizes this practice opens up a world of possibilities and enriches both their life and the lives of others. You might find this concept difficult to believe, but when gratitude is practiced, you will find that a world of possibilities arises in your life. It is as if you no longer need to worry about the future; it tends to take care of itself. This alleviates stress and worries, as stress and worries are direct results of feeling a lack of control over your life.

Practicing gratitude can lead to people and events altering in your life in unexpected ways, presenting possibilities you never thought of. I have found this true in my own life. I recall being employed in a government job for nearly twenty years. While the job paid well and the work environment was appealing, I knew I had plateaued, and my enthusiasm and creativity had stalled.

Regardless of my circumstances, I continued to give thanks and gratitude for my present situation, knowing that if life were to change for me, I would be directed. Then, a change of circumstances occurred in my life. Our place of living needed to change due to my wife’s work, so we moved. My wife had an opportunity arise that opened up the possibility of me working with her. This led me in a new direction, and suddenly, I faced a situation with my immediate supervisor that altered my approach to continuing my work in government services. Everything happened at once, causing me to shift to another type of work. This change was unplanned and seemed to happen naturally, without manipulation.

In a heartbeat, my life changed. At the same time, I made a financial decision to purchase an apartment, which was made possible with some financial assistance from my son. My son also needed a place to live due to an unpleasant living situation. Living a life of gratitude not only affects your life but also positively impacts the people around you. The positive effects ripple through the lives of others, as it did within my family.

Looking back at the myriads of events since changing my government job, I can see how my wife, daughter, son, and granddaughter have had better opportunities and lives. There is no denying that gratitude changes lives. Practicing gratitude changes your outlook and positively affects the lives of others around you. By practicing gratitude, you will be assisting your loved ones at some point along life’s journey.
